New Years Eve Party Games

Blast Out the Old Year with New Years Eve Party Games

New Year's Eve is the time to have a blast! And what better way to have a blast of a time than with these two New Years Eve party games.

All Together and Sing

This is an ideal break-the-throat game because it prepares the way for the singing of Auld Lang Syne later on. Well, it is also an ideal way to break the ice amongst the guests who may not be as well-acquainted with the others.

The object of the game is to sing as many songs as possible that have place names in them, either in the title or the lyrics of the songs. For example, "New York, New York", "Hotel California" and "London Bridge" are good starts. However, you must make it clear that only the part of the song where the place is mentioned must be sung by the groups.

Now, divide the participants into groups with 4 members each. The groups must be given 15-30 minutes to compile a list of songs meeting the requirements and determine their leader, among other things.

The game starts when the first team sings their first song, followed by the second team and so on and so forth. The team that has no immediate comeback in 5 seconds (let the audience shout out the countdown) or the team that has repeated a song (let somebody take down quick notes) is out of the game. Of course, the winning team is the last one singing, pun intended.

To up the ante of one of the most raucous of New Years Eve party games, you can assign one person to point at the team that will sing next. This way, the teams will be on their toes instead of just waiting for their turn to sing at the top of their lungs.

Charades, Parades

You can tweak the popular charades game to suit the New Year. Also, this is a game best played in smaller groups than in large audiences in ballrooms. In this case, you will have a parade of personalities, movies, music and events that have made headlines in the past year.

You will divide the group into two teams, determine how long each round must be played and how many rounds will be played. Now, have each team write out the names and titles of the personalities and events that must be acted out on small pieces of paper. Place each team's pieces of paper in separate bowls.

The first person will then randomly pick a paper from the opposing team's bowl and then act out the phrase on the paper for his team to guess on. Absolutely no talking allowed! Points are awarded to the team that can correctly guess the phrases within the set time limit.

The teams must alternate in turns until such time that the period limit on the entire game is reached. The winner, of course, is the team with the most points.

These two New Years Eve party games are sure to provide the fun and enjoyment in blasting out the bad things and celebrating the good things that happened in the year just passed while ushering in the New Year with a blast!
