Wii Sports - Great Games for Parties

Rating: E (All ages)

Wii Sports comes with all new Wii consoles. It is one of the simplest yet entertaining Wii party game. It is a video party game for everyone, even if you're not a gamer!

Wii Sports The premise is simple:

Play Tennis, Baseball, Golf, Bowling or Boxing.

This normally wouldn't sound so exciting if it weren't for the Nintendo Wii's revolutionary game controllers.

It's great fun to swing the wiimote and a hit home run. Or even better to knock your friend out in a boxing match.

Make sure everyone has their Mii ! You'll need one to play.

Let's take a look at the games...

I've placed the Wii Sports games in order from top to bottom based on the fun factor and playability.

Bowling

Bowling is by far the most intuitive and fun of all the games. You'll probably need to explain to a none gamer how to swing only once. It's easy to do things like add spin to the ball, just turn your hand when you let go!

Tennis

Swing when the ball comes your way! Your Mii will move on its own towards the ball, its your job to swing at the right time with the right force. If you hit it just right when serving you can perform a power hit that knocks the ball screaming across the net at super speed. Remember to watch where you swing!

Baseball

It starts to get a little more tricky here, but it still remains fun. You are either the batter or the pitcher. All other aspects of the game (running the bases and the outfield) are taken care of by the Wii. As the pitcher you can throw curve balls and control the speed of the pitch. The tricky part is being the batter - timing for this game is more difficult, but hitting a home run is very rewarding .

Boxing

The boxing game is fun once you get the feeling for it, but that will take several games. Discovering the right way to throw a punch, and dodge isn't completely intuitive. Make sure the sensor bar is centered and that you're not too far away from it. If you're patient enough and get the basics down it can be a lot of fun.

Though, if you pitch two people against each other and if they haven't gotten the basics down but are very into the game, it can be quite entertaining . Playing Wii Sports is about the experience!

Golf

Now for golf...not a very exciting sport to begin with. This takes even more practice than boxing to get used to. I don't particularly recommend this game for a party. The Wii is really about providing a fun experience to everyone, even if they are not a gamer. This golf game just takes too long for the average non-gamer get a grasp of.

If you and your friends really do want to play golf on the Wii for your party, I recommend Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 in place of the Wii Sports version. There is also a Training mode for each game. This adds some variation if you want something more. You can do things like see how many pins out of 100 you can knock down. But, I usually find myself sticking to the four basic games when I am with my friends.

This is an overall great game full of fun music and simple graphics. As the Party Game Guru I recommend Wii Sports as the best game for people who haven't played on a Wii or who haven't ever played on a gaming console.
